Griego Erwn Dropped As Speaker

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists has dropped disgraced Sacramento Bee columnist Diana Griego Erwin as a guest speaker from its June 24th conference.

Griego Erwin made the decision an easy one by failing to respond to numerous phone calls and e-mails, according to NSNC president Suzette Standring.

But as usual, Griego Erwin presents a different story. Claiming to be “put out” by being cancelled, Griego Erwin stated that the NSNC had her cellular phone and could have reached her via her mobile number at any time.

Standring, however, said she no one at her organization had Griego Erwin’s cell number.

All things considered, the NSNC may have caught a break.

Why would anyone want to be even indirectly associated with Griego Erwin?

Of Course The Diocese Loves Illegal Immigrants From Mexico

As I have mentioned before I am an equal opportunity offender but my zest for ridicule doesn’t seem to extend far enough to cover a Cardinal.

I’m a little scared…fear of lightning bolts or eternal damnation seem to have sway over me. [James Fulford assures me I’m safe because "after you're 21 they can’t use the strap on you". He better be right…]

Then again…what is Cardinal Mahony thinking when writes these crazy opinion editorials for the Los Angeles Times?? [Thanks to Lance in San Pedro!!]

A Nation That Should Know Better by Cardinal Roger Mahony, archbishop of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Los Angeles.

He starts out with this:

“It appears fashionable these days, and almost politically correct, to blame hard-working immigrants, especially those from Mexico and Central America, for the social and economic ills of our state and nation.”

Fashionable? How about accurate?

This isn’t the first time his eminence has ventured down the illegal immigrant apologist path. It seems to be his pet issue.

He goes on to write:

“Anti-immigrant fervor on TV and radio talk shows, citizens attempting to enforce immigration laws and the enactment of restrictive laws, such as the Real ID Act, are evidence of this trend. Some of our elected officials are joining the parade, going so far as to call for the closing of our southern border.”

Ooh, how dare we close our border? The nerve we have in wanting to secure our nation against invasion and terror.

You have to read the whole thing.

I’ve met the Cardinal and he seemed a lovely man however…

At the risk of sounding cynical (smells too much like blasphemy for me) one should ask the Archdiocese of Los Angeles what they stand to gain from a U.S. immigration policy that admits millions of immigrants from a well-known Catholic country. My money’s on money.
