No Free Speech In Florida?–Act Now
Jan Hall is an elementary school teacher in Orange County, Florida…or at least she was.
Ronald Blocker is the Superintendant of Orange County Schools. This is his email.
Ms. Hall wrote a letter to her Congressman which was subsequently published in a local Spanish newspaper. The letter contained language that was supposedly critical of Hispanics and therefore racist in nature.
According to a Local6 news story [Teacher Faces Dismissal Over Hispanic 'Hate' Letter 8/22/05] the following is an example of the teacher’s hateful remarks:
“Schools are dealing with too many problems which originate in the language differences and that takes teaching time away from our American children whose parents do pay taxes.”
The school board will meet tomorrow to decide whether she will be fired or placed on administrative leave without pay. Hall has been ordered to attend the meeting should she wish to defend herself.
According to Frank Kruppenbacher, an Orange County Schools spokesman, the decision to fire Ms. Hall was already made last week.
“She has been removed from Sadler Elementary and will not be returning to Sadler Elementary regardless of the outcome of the investigation”Local6 8/22/05]
