Coming Your Way. More Filipino Teachers!
Wherever you live, you can be sure that Filipino teachers will be coming to your local school district…and soon.
In response to my columns, “Our Schools to Import Filipino Teachers,” and “Temporary Workers: First, Computer Programmers; Next American, Teachers?” a reader from Kansas wrote me that 30 teachers are now working at the Prince George’s County public schools.

Note the usual references to “shortages.”
But also note the frank assessment by the National Education Association and an assistant superintendent of human resources for the Fairfax County, VA. schools.
Melinda Anderson of the N.E.A. calls foreign hiring “a Band-Aid solution.”
And Kevin North urges “first exhausting our supply of local teachers before recruiting foreign teachers.”
