Immigration Debate Update: Senator Durbin Wraps Up The Day

I can’t stand Senator Durbin…I mean I loathe the man.

He is supposed to be the last Senator to speak this evening and of course, he is spinning anecdotal yarns about poor people “without documentation” that have super-duper talent.

A little musical prodigy trying to get into Julliard…an illegal alien from Korea…the contributions she would make to our nation.

Guess what? She would make a great contribution and I hope she gets the opportunity…now I have an anecdote of my own:

Fredil Omar Rodriguez-Fuentes is an illegal alien living in Pennsylvania. Last June, he broke into the home of 20 year-old Carly Snyder and stabbed her 37 times!! Oh…and this murderer or “person without documentation” failed to appear at a hearing in October 2001 where a judge had already ordered him deported. (story here)

The Senate will resume debate tomorrow morning and I will be back to update VDARE.com readers throughout the day…let’s hope it goes better tomorrow, huh?

Facing the Ugly Numbers

Let us thank Sen. Jeff Sessions for a clear statement of the population increase built in to the Senate legislation [McCain/Kennedy leads to 30 million new illegal immigrants, Townhall, March 29]:

“This bill would add 30 million people to our nation in the next ten years. We ought to be spending some time talking about that. It’s a big, big deal.”

Sessions pointed out that this bill is also in opposition to what the President has said he wanted: a bill that did not put illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship. “This bill puts the people who came here illegally on an automatic path to citizenship,” said Sessions. “If that is not amnesty I don’t know what is!”

Sessions pleaded with his colleagues to consider only a border enforcement approach at this time. Sessions thinks the enormous question of what to do about the 12 million illegal immigrants who are already here is too big to handle quickly.

This year, the national population odometer will click over to 300 million residents. From the viewpoint of environmental sustainability, that’s too many. The natural systems which replenish water, forests and soils cannot function properly with the pressure of so many people using up those resources.

Yet the Senate is now considering an egregiously irresponsible bill from a conservationist viewpoint. At a time when the national dialogue should be about slowing population growth for the good of both humans and our physical surroundings, Washington is headed in the opposite direction.

Even if you don’t care about protecting wildlife and preserving old-growth forests, you probably don’t want recycled toilet water coming out of your tap, a likely future symptom in many areas due to immigration-fueled overpopulation.

Immigration Debate Update: Senator Sessions Opposes The “No Illegal Alien Left Behind Act”

Hee Hee…

Senator Sessions (R-Alabama) has been arguing the merits of the Specter bill for some time and has even gone so far as to say he will vote against it.

Ok, that’s one.

This is the best part:

He has taken the time to explain how the Specter bill is, in fact, amnesty as it legalizes the status of essentially every illegal alien in the U.S.

He says the bill should be called the “No Illegal Alien Left Behind Act”

Unfortunately, Sessions has also said that he will support a guest worker plan–he was sooo close to being my hero.

Then again, he just said “We are not here to serve the interests of agri-business, we are here to serve the people of the United States.”

He’s back in contention…

Immigration Debate Update: Ok, I Can’t Take Anymore

Senators Leahy and Domenici are stark raving mad!

Then again…maybe the whole Senate is mad!

We have yet to hear from a single Member of our illustrious Senate who thinks we ought to punish illegal aliens for breaking the law.

On the contrary, we have heard much about Leahy’s Canadian wife and Domenici’s Italian mother.

Hmm…I wonder if Mrs. Leahy or Mrs. Domenici ever walked the streets of Los Angeles brandishing Mexican flags and desecrated American flags while chanting about taking back “their country”? Scroll down the page at Michelle Malkin’s Blog for pictures (here).

“Peaceful” demonstrations as Leahy called them…then again, Leahy also thanked MALDEF and La Raza for their efforts…God help us.

For those of you who have written to encourage me to run for the Senate:

I would only set foot in the Senate if I could round up all the Members and smack them around–that’s hardly an effective campaign slogan!

On second thoughts…that just might work!

Immigration Debate Update: Specter Says Amnesty Is A Code Word…A What?

Don’t let anyone say the the Specter bill doesn’t address border security!

Just now on the Senate floor, the Senator from Pennsylvania said:

“We have provided for border security…we have provided for a “virtual fence”…unmanned drones will patrol the border.”

Whew! I feel better knowing that nobody is patrolling!!

As far as the illegal immigration situation in the U.S., Specter said:

“Illegal immigration is a problem, it’s always going to be a problem so long as there are jobs here to draw them.”

Hmm…bank robbers…they’re a problem, they’re always going to be a problem so long as there is money in banks.

Sheesh…get this guy to zip it already.

P.S. Specter says “amnesty” is a “code word” used to frighten people. No Senator, “guest worker plan” is a code word for “amnesty.”

Immigration Debate Update: Senator Frist Likes Cornyn/Kyl Bill…a.k.a. Amnesty!

Senator Bill Frist has finally brought his bill to the floor (S.2454).

Apparently, the garbage bill that come out of the Specter Lair (Judiciary Committee) on Monday won’t come to the floor until later this week.

Wait a minute…Frist is talking about securing our borders and he said “that’s why I intoduce this bill first.” What does he mean “first”?

That implies that other, non-security oriented bills (guest worker/amnesty) are on the way…

He’s talking about “human smugglers”, “virtual barriers along the border” and “expedited removal.”

“There are over 11 million people in this country illegally and Congress cannot just ignore that.” he said.

“In my view, neither the House bill nor the Senate Judiciary bill seem to address it properly.” he added.

“The Judiciary bill goes too far…there are better ways to address this issue. Senators Cornyn and Kyl have a bill that create a temporary worker plan…” he finally said it.

Yep, Senator Frist is already speaking for a temporary guest worker program.

Let’s see…we’re 5 minutes into the debate and the Senate Majority Leader has already caved.

Martinez, Frist…the Traitor List grows.

Immigration Debate Resumes In The Senate: Senator Martinez A Traitor?

So I’m watching C-SPAN, waiting for the Senate to resume debate and Senator Mel Martinez (R-Florida) is giving an interview.

Holy cow! Senator Martinez just said that one of the most important issues for the upcoming debate is that we “put our best face forward for Latin America and their communities.”

He is also opposed to building a fence along the border–he says there are better ways to protect the border although he didn’t offer any detail.

And there it is! A caller just phoned in and called him a traitor!

Took the words right out of my mouth…

Flashback: “Isn’t Immigration A Civil Right?”

From Alien Nation 242:

…you could never on your own think up all the weird questions people ask.

QUESTION: Isn’t immigration a civil right?

[ANSWER: No! Are you serious?]

Isn’t immigration a what? Well, I should have anticipated it, I suppose. Current U.S. policy, as we have seen, does indeed treat legal immigration as a sort of bastard civil right, extended to relatives of the arbitrarily selected group of foreigners who happen to have shouldered through the door first since the 1965 Immigration Act. But that was not what the students meant. They meant that all foreigners just have a right, a civil right, to emigrate to the United States. (In fact, I suspect that, like many Americans, the students didn’t realize foreigners have an independent existence at all. They just viewed them as an exotic type of American minority. Like Hollywood’s Maurice Chevalier or Charles Laughton.)

And on this level, needless to say, the proposition is hopelessly incoherent, logically and morally. How can foreigners have civil rights when they are not members of the civitas? And why these foreigners-at the expense of the infinite number of other foreigners?

Thousands Rally For…

“Thousands Rally For Immigrants’ Rights” is a popular headline today. Cal Thomas asks “What rights?”

The Flag Kennedy Can’t See

Ted Kennedy’s just finished speaking on C-Span 2. He said that the 1 million immigrants who rallied “included” many waving the American flag.Well, that’s one way of looking at it. Look at Michelle Malkin’s site for the flag the rest of us are seeing.
