Was It Something We Said?

The same article in two different venues:

As my old National Review colleague, Ed Rubenstein, writing on the Web site www.vdare.com, points out, these figures show work-site arrests under President Bush have fallen from Clintonian levels by something like 97 percent — even though the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, occurred in the meantime. –John O’Sullivan in the Washington Times< /a>

Home Depot Loses A Customer

No surprises here, but I think the VDARE readers may have an interest in this letter that came in a minute ago regarding Home Depot and the anarchy we will witness tomorrow.

From Joe in Texas:

Did you ever wonder what Home Depot thinks about the Illegal Alien protests scheduled to happen tomorrow? I found out. I was at Home Depot today. My wife wants me to build a new swing set for the kids and storage shed. I went there today to get an estimate of the cost of everything I need.

While there, my wife suggested we buy the materials today and have them delivered tomorrow, since I have the day off from work. I was all set to buy $2000 worth of stuff. When we told them we wanted the stuff delivered, they said no problem, “We can have it at your house on Tuesday morning”. I told them that was unacceptable, that I needed everything tomorrow as I would not be home any other day until next week.

After some discussion, and I walked off rather angry, (I was sure I knew why I could not get anything delivered tomorrow), the clerk told my wife the truth. He admitted that Home Depot HQ’s put the word out that there should be no deliveries on Monday in support of the boycott.

We went to a second Home Depot and got the same message. I guess illegal alien boycotts are more important to Home Depot that their Legal US Citizen customers.

Remember, no matter what the media or open borders crowds says; this boycott is not about Immigrants, it is about giving rights to Illegal Aliens.

Looks like it will be some time before the kids get their new swing set and I get my storage buildings.

All I will add to Joe from Texas’ letter is that I hope he will consider another retailer next time.

Homeowners: Don’t Worry, Be Happy, Hire Illegals

In something of a pre-emptive strike against predictable citizen revulsion toward the crowds of illegals proclaiming hatred for America on commie May Day, the Associated Press came up with some shameless propaganda that illegal immigration is good for us.

Chill out, the story subtly suggests, don’t fear the invading thousands waving Mexican flags. That’s just their way of saying they like tacos for lunch when you hire them to work on your house. Just cruise down to your local Home Depot and get some cheap illegal workers for yourself.

Yep, it’s the humble homeowner putting dollars in Juan’s pocket [ Homeowners, top employers of day laborers, say the system works, AP, 4/29/06 ].

BURBANK, Calif. - Chris James needed help moving a piano and three dozen boxes of records from his music studio - so instead of corralling some buddies, he rented a truck and hired some workers from outside the local Home Depot.

Within minutes, two Guatemalan men James had promised $12.50 an hour were in his truck.

If James, 31, worked solo “it would take all day.” [...]

It was first time James hired day laborers, but it won’t be his last.

No mention of the ugly down side of the neo-slave economy, however — the murders, rapes and property crimes that occasionally result from unidentified workers.

The family of the late Mary Nagle surely regret allowing illegal alien Douglas Herrera to do painting prep work on their house. The mother of two was savagely raped and murdered in her bedroom by a man who was supposed to supply cheap labor only.

Another horrific case was the murder of an elderly couple, Eugenia and Sabato Russo, who owned a popular North Hollywood restaurant. A Mexican national who had worked as one of a flooring crew in the Russo home returned to rob and kill them.

The MSM wants naive Americans to think there is no danger in bringing total strangers from foreign countries into their homes, thereby revealing possessions, children and individual vulnerability to crime. Common sense concerns about safety would distract from the warm feelings of helping willing workers of the world, so the press leaves out that part.

Spanish Anthem’s Kidron’s Messy, Marxist Past

Goodness knows Britain is full of nogoodniks- I emigrated, didn’t I? - but this Adam Kidron, always described as the “British” record producer responsible for the Spanish-language travesty of the national anthem, is obviously a prize specimen. (It’s not a translation but a complete rewrite, by the way, glorifying the illegal immivasion). Steve Sailer has now provided the story that the MSM mysterously has not: Kidron is the son of Michael Kidron, a South African-born Marxist academic who emigrated first to Israel and then to Britain, where he was prominent in International Socialists, a leading Trotskyite group. Adam Kidron himself has a history of sleazy deals, lovingly chronicled by Steve.

I remember IS well from my student days in Britain in the 1960s. Despite the elegaic tone of the reminiscences I see on Kidron’s web archive, they were never anything but a bunch of thugs who would have happily brought the Gulag to Britain if they’d had the chance. It’s a scandal of contemporary culture that the MSM would never have been so indifferent to Adam Kidron’s backgound if he was the son of a Nazi.

According to one obituary, Michael Kidron’s last article before he died in 2003 was still “full of hatred” for the system that brought wealth to himself and his children. Obviously, Adam Kidron has inherited that hate. To hell with them all.

On a lighter note, Mark in Mexico has an amusing account of Mexico’s mucho macho National Anthem. Maybe we should rewrite that.

Could you please compare the dates of these two stories, and tell me what the WSJ is spending their huge old-media newsgathering budget on?

Two Different Slants On The Boycott

Two pieces about the marches and what they’re trying to do here: One is from A Certain Slant Of Light, and is the same kind of internet journalism that we try to do here on Vdare.com, with an great many useful links:

But what the marches and economic boycott are really all about is blackmailing the United States Congress (they have long had President Bush in their hip pockets) into granting them amnesty, citizenship, “full legalization,” and, as outrageous as it may seem to we bona-fide American citizens, all of the rights and prerogatives that the U.S. Constitution affords. Indeed, this well-orchestrated, in-your-face affront to legitimate American citizens is all about an entitlement mentality run amuck and a Congress (particularly the United States Senate) obsequiously bowing to the demands of Mexican and Central American interlopers behaving as if they were red-blooded Americans. And, truth be known, it’s also about our elected representatives from both political parties engaging in a Faustian pact with lawbreakers and the business interests who knowingly hire them: to wit, a quid pro quo exchange of amnesty and citizenship for future votes and continuing cheap, taxpayer-subsidized labor.
A Certain Slant Of Light » The Great Un-American Boycott Is A Rip-Off And Unadulterated Blackmail

John O’Sullivan, on the other hand, had an excellent old-media piece two weeks ago (Chicago Sun-Times and elsewhere) which says that while marchers can’t be marching against the President, or against corporate interests, both of whom support amnesty, they also can’t really be marching against Congress, since Congressional Democrats are already in favor of surrendering, and Republicans are firmly opposed to illegal immigration. He suggests that marches are aimed, in fact, at the American people.

So the marches are, in effect, directed against the voters since they stand behind the Republican legislators blocking the bill. If one listens carefully to the rhetoric of the marchers and their organizers, they deny the right of Congress and the voters to control immigration, to expel illegal immigrants or even to place any conditions on their remaining — the conditions that the voters insist on as the minimum for any genuine compromise.[Even if borders stay open, Congress can close debate,April 11, 2006

Light Dawns in the West

With Immigration “Reform” (a.k.a. “Relaxation”) returning to the Senate, the MSM is stepping up the pro- invasion propaganda barrage, as Joe Guzzardi noted last night. (Although it is amusing to note their rate of fire is being somewhat disrupted by concerns the Reconquista demonstrations they were so delighted to celebrate may have backfired. See: Boycott foes fear backlash. Immigration bill supporters want a normal Monday by Gebe Martinez Houston Chronicle April 29 2006)

Encouragingly, however, away from enforcement ground zeros of the metropolitan centers, some reasonable and intelligent work is being done. Consider Taking A Closer Look At Illegal Immigration By Brian Barker – KATU.com April 28 2006, which appears to be the result of some open minded investigatory journalism:

KATU News has uncovered surprising details about the costs and benefits of illegal immigration in Oregon…[Umtilla County] Sheriff John Trumbo has sent a bill to the President of Mexico, outlining 5,061 beds used by the country’s citizens in 2005 at a cost of $63 per day…Umatilla County spends more than $300,000 a year keeping illegal immigrants behind bars…If the immigrants had not crossed the border, Trumbo says, they would not have been here to commit crimes and they would not be in his jail.

There is no statewide estimate about what it costs to jail illegal immigrants…It is the same story for schools. Public schools are required to educate every child, regardless of whether they are legal…Children of illegal immigrants often do not speak English as their first language. It costs an additional $2,600 a year per child to educate someone who speaks English as a second language.
Then there are the hospitals. They do not track how many illegal immigrants they serve, but the vast majority of those who seek care do not have health insurance. In the state of Oregon, illegal immigrants account for a staggering $165 million in unpaid medical bills.

KATU notes that there is dispute about whether these immigrants are “giving more than they take”, but even the Economist they produce to personify that thought, Portland State University Professor Anthony Rufolo, adds a penetrating observation

the argument that illegal immigrants take away jobs that legal citizens would do, he says, is not realistic. “You have to recognize the flexibility of the economy based on relative wages. Producers change the way they produce things. If there’s a large amount of low skilled labor available, then they tend to change the production process to make use of that.”

College professors in the West seem particularly able to grasp this concept.

“Almost Made It” - Guantanamo Detainee Caught At Border

This just in:

From Pakistan to Guantanamo Bay, Via Mexico

The best piece of original reporting on the web today is by Blog of the Week Thomas Joscelyn: “Guantanamo Detainee Caught At The Border.” Tom has put together reporting and documents that are in the public record, along with thousands of pages of transcribed Guantanamo Bay hearing testimony that were released in March, to assemble a fascinating story about one of the detainees, a Pakistani, who set out from Pakistan to come to America, and, chillingly, almost made it.Power Line: From Pakistan to Guantanamo Bay, Via Mexico
April 27, 2006

It’s not nice to say “I told you so” but what the heck:

VDARE.com: 11/18/03 - Memo From Mexico: Yes, Raoul, There Is A Terrorist Threat From Mexico

VDARE.com: 09/22/04 - Time’s Trap For Politicians: Who Let The (Next) Terrorists In?

VDARE.com: 11/17/04 - Another Time[!] Trap For Politicians: Who Let The Nuclear Bomb In?

And this one by me, about a journalist who got suspended for describing illegals as wetbacks:

Wetback is arguably a racial slur-if it’s used to describe Mexican-Americans or legal immigrants. The term was used officially by the US Government during the Eisenhower administration ( "Operation Wetback"). It comes from the undeniable fact that, where the border consists of the Rio Grande River, illegal aliens cross by fording it. And they arrive soaking wet. One person who got soaked recently was Farida Goolam Mohamed Ahmed, a South African Arab woman on the terrorist watch list. She was arrested by the Border Patrol at McAllen Miller International Airport on her way to New York.

Among her possessions were a pair of wet blue jeans and muddy shoes scored with thorns, a border official said.” - [S. African Detained in Texas May Have Terrorist Ties, by Sylvia Moreno and John Mintz, Washington Post, August 1, 2004]

Ms. Ahmed is not a Mexican at all. The Rio Grande will dampen anyone who crosses it. They don’t have to be a descendant of Montezuma or the Conquistadors to get wet.

Tyson Foods Shutting Down For Illegal Immigrant Boycott Monday…What A Surprise!

According to FOX News, Tyson Foods will be shutting down several plants next Monday due to the scheduled illegal immigration rallies.

Tyson to Shut Plants During Immigration Rallies
Friday, April 28, 2006

“While we understand the sentiment behind the May 1 events and support comprehensive immigration reform, we are not encouraging workers to participate in the rallies,” Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said.

Yeah…they’re not encouraging anybody to attend–but most of their employees will be attending.

BECAUSE THEY’RE ILLEGAL ALIENS!!

Well fine…two can play at this game.

I will not be purchasing any Tyson food products until they stop hiring illegal aliens–I will also encourage everybody I know to do the same.

I may even stand vigil in my local grocery store…

Email Tyson…please.
