“Almost Made It” - Guantanamo Detainee Caught At Border

This just in:

From Pakistan to Guantanamo Bay, Via Mexico

The best piece of original reporting on the web today is by Blog of the Week Thomas Joscelyn: “Guantanamo Detainee Caught At The Border.” Tom has put together reporting and documents that are in the public record, along with thousands of pages of transcribed Guantanamo Bay hearing testimony that were released in March, to assemble a fascinating story about one of the detainees, a Pakistani, who set out from Pakistan to come to America, and, chillingly, almost made it.Power Line: From Pakistan to Guantanamo Bay, Via Mexico

It’s not nice to say “I told you so” but what the heck:

VDARE.com: 11/17/04 - Another Time[!] Trap For Politicians: Who Let The Nuclear Bomb In?

And this one by me, about a journalist who got suspended for describing illegals as wetbacks:

Wetback is arguably a racial slur-if it’s used to describe Mexican-Americans or legal immigrants. The term was used officially by the US Government during the Eisenhower administration ( "Operation Wetback"). It comes from the undeniable fact that, where the border consists of the Rio Grande River, illegal aliens cross by fording it. And they arrive soaking wet. One person who got soaked recently was Farida Goolam Mohamed Ahmed, a South African Arab woman on the terrorist watch list. She was arrested by the Border Patrol at McAllen Miller International Airport on her way to New York.

Among her possessions were a pair of wet blue jeans and muddy shoes scored with thorns, a border official said.” - [S. African Detained in Texas May Have Terrorist Ties, by Sylvia Moreno and John Mintz, Washington Post, August 1, 2004]

Ms. Ahmed is not a Mexican at all. The Rio Grande will dampen anyone who crosses it. They don’t have to be a descendant of Montezuma or the Conquistadors to get wet.

Tyson Foods Shutting Down For Illegal Immigrant Boycott Monday…What A Surprise!

According to FOX News, Tyson Foods will be shutting down several plants next Monday due to the scheduled illegal immigration rallies.

Tyson to Shut Plants During Immigration Rallies
Friday, April 28, 2006

“While we understand the sentiment behind the May 1 events and support comprehensive immigration reform, we are not encouraging workers to participate in the rallies,” Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said.

Yeah…they’re not encouraging anybody to attend–but most of their employees will be attending.

BECAUSE THEY’RE ILLEGAL ALIENS!!

Well fine…two can play at this game.

I will not be purchasing any Tyson food products until they stop hiring illegal aliens–I will also encourage everybody I know to do the same.

I may even stand vigil in my local grocery store…

Email Tyson…please.

When A Spanish National Anthem Might Be Appropriate

I got a letter on my post, Star-Spangled Spanglish.

Juan Jimenez wrote from San Juan, Puerto Rico:

Funny that you should call the translated version of the Star Spangled Banner a parody, when YOUR version is in fact a parody of an old English drinking song. What a pity that your parents chose not to send you to a school that would have given you a true education… BTW, this Hispanic vowed to give his life for what the country stands for, including all people of all languages and all races/ethnic backgrounds, INCLUDING THOSE IMMIGRANTS TO BELIEVE IN THIS COUNTRY, legal or not. What have you done for your country other than whine and parasite?

I wrote back this:

I’m afraid you’re mistaken on the my comments on the National Anthem.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a Spanish-speaking American singing the national anthem as “La bandera de las estrellas.” That’s a translation, not a parody. This is a made-up version with new lyrics.

See this version here for one that might be appropriate. There are at least four legitimate translations, which is the problem with translations in general, and I think singing it in English should be the standard, but of course Puerto Rico is a special case as far as language is concerned.

The version they’re singing is more of an anti-American anthem, which is also anti-military, as in the update, below.

While I have never done anything as useful as service in the USMC, (we have at least two Marines on Vdare.com: D. A. King and Howard Sutherland) I am in favor of protecting the US from invasion, unlike, say, Raoul Lowery Contreras, (also a Marine.)

Raoul Lowery Contreras, you see, after serving his country in uniform, has changed sides. (Kind of like John Kerry, during the Vietnam War.)

Unlike the men of the (very) Old Corps who stormed the Heights of Chapultepec, and carried “La Bandera De Las Estrellas “into the Halls of Montezuma, he now wants the descendants of Montezuma to come storming back

Anyhow, here, again are the lyrics of what is NOT the National Anthem in Spanish.

Coro: Oh, decid! Despliega aun su hermosura estrellada,/Sobre tierra de libres, la bandera sagrada?

Chant:

It’s time to make a difference the kids, men and the women/Let’s stand for our beliefs, let’s stand for our vision/What about the children los ninos como P-Star

These kids have no parents, cause all of these mean laws.

See this can’t happen, not only about the Latins.

Asians, blacks and whites and all they do is adding more and more, let’s not start a war with all these hard workers, they can’t help where they were born.

Fjordman Connects Mexican and Muslim Threats

One of our favorite bloggers occasionally posts his observations on Little Green Footballs. Recently he has turned his attention to how America’s weakness in responding to the situation with Mexico may well have dire consequences. Here is his alarm from this morning [Fjordman warns about response to Mexican assault]:

You Americans need to understand just how much is at stake here. We are in the early stages of a world war with Islam, Muslims are working to get nuclear weapons and are openly calling for the physical destruction of the West. Your enemies are watching the way you are handling the illegal situation, and they are not impressed. Do you think the North Koreans or the Iranians are scared of a country that allows itself to be intimidated and held hostage by a bunch of Mexicans who shouldn’t even be in the country in the first place? When you’re a superpower, the line of separation between domestic and foreign policy hardly exists. During the Cold War, the Soviet Union was impressed by the way Ronald Reagan handled the blackmail by the air trafic controllers. He simply fired them. This signalled to your enemies abroad that you were not going to give into black mail anywhere.

What is at stake here is your credibility as a superpower. In the longer run, it could be your physical security from nuclear attacks, perhaps even your very survival as a coherent nation state.

DO NOT give in to Mexican intimidation. Build the fence, and deport the illegals. Yes, ALL of them. No amnesty.

We are facing decades of what could potentially become the deadliest war in human history, where the very survival of Western civilization and perhaps human civilization in general hangs in the balance. We cannot win this without you. You are the indispensible nation, and if you break down, the rest of the planet is basically screwed.

VDARE.COM ATTACKED IN MEXICAN MEDIA

Whoopee! VDARE.COM has been attacked in the Mexican media! It appeared in an article entitled Neonazis Van Contra Hispanos[Neonazis go against Hispanics, by Jose Carreno, El Universal Online, April 28th, 2006.]

The article begins by saying that “ White supremacists, Neo-Nazis and other racist groups have declared an ‘open season’ of hunting and harassment against immigrants and they attempt to utilize the migratory debate to stir up hate against Hispanics, particularly Mexicans, the Jewish Anti-Defamation League (ADL) revealed yesterday.” If you’re a VDARE.com reader, you may have already read Bryanna Bevens’ debunking of the propagandistic and misleading ADL report - which did not, however, despite Carrero’s implication, cite VDARE.COM.

It’s the old tactic of smearing all Americans concerned about our immigration disaster (that is to say, most Americans) as “neo-Nazis”, in order to shut people up.

The last paragraph of Carreno’s piece reads “The anti-immigrant activity of extreme right-wing groups has been visible in the activities of the Minuteman organization (which claims it rejects the racists) – and in rallies and political activities of groups such as American Patrol and VDARE.”

I’ve never been invited to any of these VDARE.COM rallies - maybe it’s because I live in Mexico.

Anyway, we’ve made the Mexican media. And in the same paragraph as American Patrol and the Minutemen - which puts us in good company.
