Cannon: Once more unto the breach…

Yes, it was a disappointment. Chris Cannon’s 56/44 victory in Utah’s 3rd district Congressional primary brings back sad memories of electoral moments which which actually did turn around America : the Reagan ‘76 NC Primary for instance.

And it is annoying to endure the braying triumphalism of the other side: such as Grover Norquist’s

But a soldier must consider the field: this was a battle the other side absolutely had to win. If Cannon had been defeated, would any Republican Congressman have been willing to associate with the Kennedy-Bush Amnesty/Immigration Acceleration Bill? And how many would want to finance fending off a Jacob-like challenge?

This was a last ditch stand for Amnesty proponents. Sadly, they won.

For the Patriots, it was a great opportunity. We lost. But other chances will arise

It was of course unfortunate that this battle had to be staged in an area of America extreme in its deference to authority, and loyalty to its leaders.

How strange it is that Mormonism, that most American of religions, might well be causative in the Nation’s fall.

MSM forces are now anxious to erase the concessions Cannon made to get elected. In the Internet era, that is just not possible:

Mr. Cannon now says he opposes the Senate immigration bill that would grant citizenship rights to millions of illegals. He does, however, support a “guest-worker” program that would allow illegals to remain in the country indefinitely.

“But they wouldn’t get citizenship,” he said.

If they give birth to children while in the U.S. as “guest workers,” do they then become citizens?

“Well, yes,” Mr. Cannon replied when asked by The Washington Times. “But I’m willing to address that problem.”

The Immigration Blog

See this.

Cannon originally won in 1996 by attacking his Democratic incumbent opponent on immigration. So his concessions recently are worthless.

Congressmen with districts more impacted by the recent 3rd world influx, and with less deferential constituents, would be unwise not to take note - unless they want to fight expensive primaries.

Once more, unto the breach, dear friends…

Does Anyone Have Directions to Specter’s July Pro-Illegal Alien Rally; Time Is Short

Kevin Carter’s report from the June 27th National Immigration Forum raised a few questions.

The forum has been scheduled for at least a year, probably longer.

What are they going to do—cancel it?

Senators Teddy Kennedy, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, et al. have been committed to attend for months.

What are they going to do-not show up?

Tamar Jacoby, Grover Norquist, et al. promised to speak long ago.

What are they going to do–not talk?

And once their mouths are open, what are they going to say except the same old, as Carter stated, “banalities, half truths, and outright lies?”

No one expects these scumbags to give up. But I don’t expect them to prevail either.

In the meantime, I request your assistance in a matter of growing urgency. If I am to arrange my trip to Pennsylvania from California to attend Senator Arlen Specter’s July 5th pro-illegal alien rally in Philadelphia, I need details.

Time is short; only a week remains until the 5th.

Yet a recent visit at Senator Arlen Specter’s website indicated “No Events Scheduled” for July.

If any of you have directions to where in Philadelphia the demonstrations will occur, please forward them to me.

Philly is, after all, a big city and I don’t want to get lost.

Racist School Play In England

It was called An Enchanted Evening but according to one mother it was anything but.

At an elementary school in Bristol, five boys were cast as monkeys in the annual school play–three were White and two were Black.

According to Lorraine Rees, the mother of one the Black boys, casting her son as a monkey was an act of racism.

She told the BBC,

“Everyone is aware of the racist connotations of asking a black pupil to play a monkey.”

She added,

“I think what the school have done is definitely racist and should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. It is just not acceptable.”

[Head denies racism over school play by Alexandra Smith 6/23/06]

Good grief! Anybody who has raised children or even met one knows that this is absolute rubbish! If there is a school play in which there are monkeys involved, those are the most coveted roles!

When asked, the headteacher Helen Heap said,

“Children here were given a choice and chose their roles and there was no act of racism.”

Of course her son chose the role!

Just to strengthen my position, I conducted a very scientific, one question poll of about ten kiddies from this age group. The results would be enough to appease even the Southern Poverty Law Center–and they would probably call God a racist (and sue him) for making the whites stripes bigger than the Black stripes when He created the Zebra.

This was the question: If there was a school play with monkeys, bears, lions and snakes which animal would you like to be?

ALL OF THEM SAID MONKEY!!!

(Results are based on live interviews conducted throughout the morning of June 28th. Participants consisted of six White and three Black children. When asked what race she was, the 10th child responded “I run really fast.” Then she added “So can I be a monkey?” However, to protect the integrity of the poll, she was Asian. The maximum margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points.)

Railroad Killer Finally Executed

Illegal alien Angel Maturino Resendiz was thought to have killed up to 15 people, but was convicted and executed for the murder of one, Texas Doctor Claudia Benton.

Benton’s husband, George, planned to witness Resendiz’s execution “to make the statement that people have to understand what evil really is.”

“I tried to figure this guy out — the type of killer who would choose people at random, lie in wait and watch their houses until it’s dark and then kill them with something of convenience from their own house,” Benton said. “It’s beyond my comprehension. I can’t really consider the depths of that human behavior.”['Railroad Killer' executed in Texas , MSNBC, June 27, 2006]

Michelle Malkin wrote a whole chapter in her book Invasion about Resendiz because the mass murderer was in the hands of law enforcement several times but was let go because the INS and other authorities were underequipped in terms of identification technology to figure out they had a serial killer.

The government of Mexico intruded in April with lawyers attempting to save Resendez from justice, and managed to postpone the execution from May 10 until June 27. Anyway, it’s all over now.

“It’s Alive” - Senate Sellout Bill Still Survives

Here’s a report from Kevin Carter, in Washington.

Kevin Carter writes:

A lot of immigration reformers right now seem convinced that the Bush-McCain-Kennedy bill is dead and done for. I hope they’re right, but they ought to tell it to the Open Borders crowd. On Tuesday, June 27, the National Immigration Forum held a press conference at the Dirksen Senate Building to tout the supposedly dead Senate bill and its “comprehensive” approach to immigration reform.

Practically all of the usual suspects showed up for the soiree. John McCain was there, informing everyone that immigration was at least a “number two” issue for the American public and said that we needed to “elevate the dialogue” on the subject. Ted Kennedy was there, assuring us all that the good folk from south of the border were coming to “join the American family” and “be a part of the American Dream.” Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ken Salazar (D-CO) also showed, chiding any politician who would ever dare to wave immigration restriction “as their flag for reelection in November.”

Tamar Jacoby and Grover Norquist were there, along with all of the major lobbyists: the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Hospitality Industries Union, La Raza, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Asian American Justice Forum, etc. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops had intended to send a representative, but instead chose only to send their blessings.

I will spare the reader most of the banalities, half truths, and outright lies spun at this little gathering; suffice to say, by the end of it, this immigration reformer was on the verge of lurching towards the lavatory. The basic message, reiterated by virtually every speaker, was that the Senate bill was a “rational,” “logical,” “sensible,” and “humane” approach and that anyone favoring an “enforcement only” strategy was simply a lunatic.

The reporters, however, seemed surprisingly incredulous. One asked how the proponents of the Senate bill could possibly move public opinion to their side. Frank Sharry, executive director for the National Immigration Forum, answered that the polls showed the public was on their side and quipped that immigration restrictionists were “loud but not very large.” He seemed confident that the more the public learned about the “comprehensive” approach, the more they would like it.

Personally, I don’t think that will be the case, but if this conference makes anything clear, it’s that the Open Borders crowd has far from given up. When a reporter asked McCain about whether or not the president was going to become more visibly involved, he said “I had a conversation with the president this morning and he is fully committed,” adding that “we want to negotiate, we want conferees appointed.”When the reporter asked what would happen if conferees weren’t appointed, McCain simply smiled and said, “Oh I think they will be.”
