World Map of Net Immigration

Map of Net Immigration

This map of the world shows rather strikingly how the US, Australia and Canada differ from other large countries in their immigration policy(although Canada and Australia have rather
different selection criteria than the US–and still have less population relative to their resource base than the US).

The Rankings:

United Arab Emirates 59
Qatar 57
Singapore 25
Israel 24
Luxembourg 24
Kuwait 24
Hong Kong 22
Bahrain 21
Jordan 21
Australia 20
Brunei Darussam 19
Saudi Arabia 17
Canada 16
Cote d’Ivorie 13
Switzerland 13
United States 11
Libyan Arab Jamahirya 10
Bahamas 10
Gabon 9
Gambia 9

Now, most of the countries on this list are authoritian states with rather little pretense of real democracy. Frankly, after looking at this list, I think Michael Moore was correct in Fahrenheit 911–George Bush has a horrible case of ‘Keeping up with the Jones’ when it comes to hereditary governments like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE.

It is really too bad that Moore is so uptight and unimaginative when it comes to looking at immigration policy. Anyhow, if Kennedy/McCain/Bush passes, I’m sure the US will move up this list-and Bush will get his wish of making the US more like his examples in the Middle East.

Think Of The Children!

Dave Ralston (email him ), a rogue city councilman in Springfield, Oregon, has been called a racist and a bigot for “anti-immigrant” statements in a email he wrote supporting a crackdown on illegal immigrant activity. (The Sunday Oregonian, Official’s immigration views spark a dust-up )

The plan he supports would not only penalize employers and landlords for providing housing and jobs to illegals, and ban day-labor pickup sites, it would also make English the official language of Springfield.

Ralston began by noting that illegals are taking the jobs that “Americans can and will do.” He went on:

I have volumes of documentation on “La Raza”, “Mecha” and “The Nation of Atzlan”, these people want to take over the “South West of America”. They want to invade, and not assimilate. It would be very eye opening to see what these organizations have to say and I will provide information to anyone who is not familiar with these groups.

Since the email, Springfield’s Mayor Sid Leiken, (email him , or call the Mayor’s office at (541) 726-3702) issued a public apology for Ralston’s “negative tone” and emphasized the role of diversity in the city’s agenda.

No one is sure of the size of Springfield’s Hispanic population, but it appears to be growing rapidly. The 2000 Census put it at 3,600 people, or 6.9 percent of the population. But some say it is likely double or triple that because many illegals do not take part in the Census.

Displaying an enervating sense for cliche, Emilio Hernandez, a Springfield resident and assistant vice provost in the University of Oregon’s Office of Institutional Equality and Diversity said, “Ralston has assaulted all of us that have been in the community for a long time…This man needs to apologize to the children for his ignorance and lack of knowledge.” You can email Hernandez here .

Oh… and by “children” he must mean “anchor babies“.

Welcome, Choose Black America

Several prominent black leaders including VDARE.com’s friend Terry Anderson have formed the new organization “Choose Black America“. From their web page:

Mass illegal immigration has been the single greatest impediment to black advancement in this country over the past 25 years. Blacks, in particular, have lost economic opportunities, seen their kids’ schools flooded with non-English speaking students, and felt the socio-economic damage of illegal immigration more acutely than any other group.

Poll data has suggested that many blacks are deeply concerned about illegal immigration-and loose immigration policy in general. As I have previously suggested, the black political leadership appears exceptionally out of touch with its constituency.

If movements like this have any substantial success, it will be a great victory for the immigration restriction movement–and I think African-Americans as a whole.

The Bland Pejorative

Via Kathy Shaidle, I see that Tim Blair has an item saying this:

“Racist” used to have a pretty straightforward, pointed meaning but now it’s just a bland pejorative used to describe anyone who disagrees with a member of the left.

Very true, but remember, you heard it here first;

“Because the term “racist” is now so debased, I usually shrug such smears off by pointing to its new definition: anyone who is winning an argument with a liberal.Or, too often, a libertarian. And, on the immigration issue, even some confused conservatives.”[Alien Nation, 1995 ]
