Reader Response To Britain’s “Home Grown” Terror Plot

A reader writes, in response to the item about the foiled Muslim terrorist plot in Britain, that

I saw all of the “suits” on TV this morning doing their normal news conference after having stumbled onto this terrorist plot to blow up planes coming into the U.S. from the U.K. The suits made all the usual remarks regarding the increase in the terror level, refusing to admit (as the investigation is ongoing) that any of the plotters had links to cells here in the U.S. And again assured us that airplane travel was safe but there were going to be some inconveniences. You know, like last year, when we all had to remove our shoes unless we were wearing flip flops. My husband commented, after the shoe bomber incident, that had Richard Reid been carrying those explosives up his butt, then 60 year old white women and 5 year old white boys would have been made to bend over for the TSA workers. Thankfully that plot was foiled by a very observant flight attendant and in all honesty, taking off my shoes seemed a lot less embarrassing than the other alternative.

In any event, the suits droned on about how safe we are and they are sending federal marshals to the U.K. to assist in the investigation. And reminded us again that if we were traveling to contact our carrier to find out about delays or what time we needed to be at the airport.

I only have 2 years of college, quite obviously, I and many American citizens aren’t nearly as brilliant or educated as the suits that work in our government and who continually tell us that we are only going to be a little inconvenienced at the airports, while TSA workers juggle baby bottles filled with formula and check shampoo to make sure it’s not explosive.

Not being very educated along with millions of other fair minded citizens of this once great country, it continually amazes me that none of these educated suits, including the one sitting in the White House, even thought that they could make our trips to the airport and through security so much easier and quicker if they would

QUIT SEARCHING LITTLE OLD LADIES AND LITTLE OLD MEN WITH PACEMAKERS AND LITTLE WHITE BOYS AND GIRLS AND START STOPPING AND CHECKING MOHAMMED, et al, who glides through airport security with barely a glance in his direction.

But then what would the suits or the President know about being inconvenienced, they fly around on private airplanes. Wouldn’t it be great if we citizens could make these guys wait in airport security, remove their shoes and liquids from the carrying on bags, just like the rest of us poor schmucks.

Vigilantes In The California Legislature? Yeah, I Wish!

A group of Republican lawmakers in California has put together a task force to conduct a series of townhall meetings about illegal immigration in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Yes, a move very similar to what Republicans in the House have done this summer.

Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine) is heading up the group–you might remember him as the wonderful man who protested Vicente Fox’s visit to the Legislature a few months back.

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez has his panties in a bunch (of course) and has taken to calling these members “vigilantes”…how original.

Let’s have a look-see at what both sides are saying:

“Illegal immigration costs California taxpayers over $10 billion per year,” said DeVore. “This task force will further quantify the impact that illegal immigration has on California and propose real solutions to this devastating problem.”

Steve Maviglio, a spokesman for Assembly Speaker Nunez, D-Los Angeles, says

“these self-appointed vigilantes are doing exactly what their Republican counterparts in Washington are doing about immigration — pitting Americans against each other instead of taking action.”

Hmm…illegal immigrants are costing California taxpayers ten billion dollars a year and all the Assembly Speaker can do about this enormous problem is attack those who would help.

It’s been a few years since I left the legislature but it sounds like nothing has changed–the inmates still run the asylum and yes, this means I am calling Speaker Nunez a certifiable nutbag…because he is.

Frank Field and Labour on Immigration

Yesterday Peter Brimelow pointed out that Labour MP Frank Field called for a dramatic reconsideration of Britain’s immigration policy. A little background is important here for VDARE.COM readers. First, Party discipline in the UK is quite a bit more strict than in the US. Critics of parliamentary systems like that in the UK complain that party members virtually walk in lockstep. Secondly Field is not just any MP. From his Wikipedia biography

Following the 1997 election, with Labour in power, Field joined the government of Tony Blair as the Minister of Welfare Reform at the Department of Social Security with the rank of Minister of State. Widely regarded as one of the most intelligent Labour MPs as evidenced by his performances at select committees and a solid performer in the media during the 1980s and 1990s he was given the task of ‘thinking the unthinkable’ in terms of social security reform.

Field is a senior Labour MP with a substantial background in addressing poverty–and has authored literally dozens of publications. It appears quite likely that Field once again has been assigned the job of thinking the unthinkable-this time in the area of immigration policy.

This is potentially quite important for us in the US. The UK has frequently adopted major legislation well before the US. If the UK restricts immigration successfully, there would be enormous pressure to do so in the US. In the UK, the Conservative Party has already called for restriction of immigration–as have several smaller parties like the BNP. Together those parties calling for immigration got the majority of popular votes in the last EU elections-which are conducted by proportional representation.

When we see the Labour Party openly weighing in with that mix, it means immigration restriction–and an entirely new political consensus on immigration- will almost be certainly coming to the UK very soon.

Terror Plot Foiled in Britain: Terrorists “Homegrown”

The word “Muslim” doesn’t appear in this story, the reference to police “working closely with the South Asian community” is a coded reference to people who were either born in Pakistan, or in parts of Britain which have been taken over by Pakistanis.

In fact, what the police have done here is worked against the South Asian community since it was “the South Asian community” which committed the London bombings.

Also, I think “transplanted” might be a better term than homegrown, don’t you?

Britain’s Home Secretary John Reid said 21 people had been arrested in London, its suburbs and in Birmingham following a lengthy investigation, including the alleged “main players” in the plot. Searches continued in a number of locations.

The suspects were “homegrown,” though it was not immediately clear if they were all British citizens, said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. Police were working closely with the South Asian community, the official said.

The official said the plotters intended to simultaneously target multiple planes bound for the United States.

“We think this was an extraordinarily serious plot and we are confident that we’ve prevented and attempt to committee mass murder on an unimaginable scale,” Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson said.ABC News: British Police Thwart Aircraft Bomb Plot
