Actress and Mother Murdered to Hide Illegal Alien’s Status

If there is another case of someone being murdered because of possibly reporting an illegal alien to the authorities, I don’t know of it. That fact makes this crime uniquely shocking, as well as how a 40-year-old actress, Adrienne Shelly, was killed in a situation disguised to look like suicide. But what was really being hidden was the immigration status of the killer.
Adrienne Shelly

“I was having a bad day,” illegal immigrant Diego Pillco, 19, allegedly told cops. “I didn’t mean to kill her. But I did kill her.”

Pillco told detectives that he punched Shelly, 40, last Wednesday afternoon outside the Abingdon Square apartment she was using as an office after she yelled at him about the noise he was making while working in a vacant apartment below. [...]

After seeing she was unconscious and believing she was dead, Pillco claimed, he dragged Shelly into her apartment, wrapped a bed sheet around her neck and attached it to a shower rod in the bathroom to make it appear she had hanged herself, sources said.
[Star's Suicide Was Killer Cover-Up, New York Post, 10/7/06]

Shelly was discovered hanged in the shower of her Greenwich Village apartment/office on Nov. 1 by her husband Andy Ostroy. Police originally thought she might have been a suicide, but the family objected that her life was going too well for that, plus a sneaker print in the bathtub was from a stranger.

Adrienne Shelly had everything to live for. She had become more interested in writing and directing, and was looking forward to the release of her film “Waitress.” She had a 3-year-old daughter, Sophie.

But her life meant nothing to an illegal alien who would do anything to protect himself.

Diego Pillco, a 19-year-old illegal immigrant who had been renovating the apartment below Shelly’s office, told cops in a chilling confession that he was afraid of getting arrested and deported, sources said.
[Killer staged her 'suicide', New York Daily News, 10/6/06]

To be clear, the medical examiner said that Shelly died from “compression to the neck” meaning she was alive when Diego Pillco hanged her to prevent her reporting him to immigration agents.

It’s “Illegal Immigrant Commits Murder,” Not “Construction Worker” Commits Murder!

This was the story according to United Press International (here):

“A New York construction worker was charged with murder Monday in the death of actress Adrienne Shelly, which was originally ruled a suicide.”

As I write this, there are 371 stories written about the accused murderer, Diego Pillco, according to Google search–almost all of them refer to him as a “construction worker” or “teenager.” (here)

When I first heard about the tragedy on the news yesterday, I could tell by the intentionally vague description of Pillco that he was most likely an illegal immigrant…a fact the MSM is always neglect to mention.

The Arizona Republic managed to call him an “undocumented immigrant” but only The Conservative Voice told the truth:

DIEGO PILLCO IS AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT!!

An illegal immigrant who (allegedly) killed an American woman after she complained about the noise he was making…but we don’t have a problem with illegal immigation, right?

UPDATE:Kenya Born Hindu/Muslim Sentenced For Islamic Terrorist Plot | MSM Version:”Briton Jailed”

A man named Dhiren Barot has been jailed in England for conspiring to commit Islamic terrorism, and the reports of his trial have frequently referred to him as a “Briton,” in spite of the fact that he isn’t descended from the aboriginal inhabitants of the British Isles, and wasn’t born in Britain. (Previous comments on this phenomenon here, here, and here.)

But Indian websites have a different story, because in India, all politics is ethnic:CNN-IBN’s headline says India-born convicted for UK terror and the Times Of India has the full details:

Dhiren Barot

Dhiren Barot likely to be sentenced, Times of India, [ 7 Nov, 2006 ]

LONDON: Dhiren Barot, son of Gujarati Hindu parents who moved to Britain from Kenya in 1973, planned to detonate a dirty bomb and launch an attack on London’s Tube network is expected to be sentenced Tuesday.

Barot, 34, who converted to Islam and reportedly underwent training with Kashmiri separatist in Pakistan-held Kashmir, is currently facing trial in a London court where details of his plans have been presented.

His plans included “massive explosions” in the US and Britain and synchronised attacks.

Described as quietly spoken and smartly dressed, Barot was born a Hindu and brought up in a north London suburb by middle-class parents. Manu, Barot’s father, a banker from Nairobi, had fled the worsening situation for Asians in Kenya in 1973, when Dhiren was two years old.

Barot converted to Islam when he was 20, which prompted a rift with his father. Barot travelled to Pakistani-controlled Kashmir to “investigate the duty of jihad” and is reported to have trained with one of the Kashmiri groups fighting in the Indian side of Kashmir.

Barot, who last month admitted conspiracy to murder, wanted to pack limousines with gas cylinders and also use a radioactive “dirty” bomb, the court was told. But lawyers for Barot insisted that he had neither funding nor bomb-making materials at the time he was caught.

Mr. Barot is an example of Reverse Assimilation–when his family moved from Kenya to England he could have assimilated to Britain, and acted like an Englishman, but instead, he chose to assimilate to Britain’s growing population of fundamentalist Muslims. Query:who are Hispanic immigrants assimilating to?

CSM on 1986 Amnesty, Twenty Years Later

There’s a story in The Christian Science Monitor about the IRCA Amnesty, and it has six stories of immigrants who were amnestied, none of who seem to be criminals or on welfare, because that’s just not done in these stories. But they do have some interesting stuff about fraud, which has been well covered here on VDARE.com by Juan Mann.

One of the big problems with the IRCA amnesty was all the counterfeit applications, especially from seasonal agricultural workers. Economists Pia Orrenius and Madeline Zavodny studied the effects of amnesty programs on undocumented immigration and presented their findings in the August 2003 issue of Demography magazine.[PDF] They say that the number of seasonal workers qualifying for amnesty was about 300,000. But in the end, more than 1 million applications were granted. “Most people agree that there was substantial fraud because the document requirement and the residency requirement were quite low for that part of the program,” Ms. Zavodny says.

“I don’t think anyone says that it deterred illegal immigration,” says Cecilia Muñoz, vice president of The National Council of La Raza, the nation’s largest Latino advocacy group. “But it succeeded in legalizing 3 million people. Their wages went up, and they’re fully integrated into American society.”

UPDATE: I had originally written “Thirty Years.” This is a basic mathematical error. It turns out that 2006-1986=20. I knew that!

From the Front: Fences work.

President Bush’s signing last week of the Border Fence bill produced an avalanche of media coverage, nearly all of it unfavorable. A fence couldn’t/wouldn’t /shouldn’t/ MUSN’T be effective, apparently.

Amidst all this garbage one account glitters like a diamond: Adios, Yakima Valley — Migrants say border crossing too risky By ELOÍSA RUANO GONZÁLEZ YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC Sunday, November 5, 2006 will gladden the hearts of all immigration patriots.

This story’s message: interdiction works.

The U.S.-Mexico border isn’t the only wall Jose Herrera has had to climb…he plans to return to his country and never work in Washington again. The combination of spiraling smuggling fees at the border, rising rents in the Yakima Valley and increasingly vocal objections from groups like the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps…The last straw for Herrera: tightening federal border policies.

Those who oppose a Fence make huge play about how it can be evaded. But the point is that rational men make rational decisions. Raise the risk; fewer will take it:

Herrera says he gave a coyote — a smuggler — $2,000 in American dollars to lead him into the United States from Michoacán… About five years ago, it would’ve cost roughly $500, Herrera says…It took Herrera 12 days to get around “La Migra” — U.S. Customs and Border Protection — and the National Guard at the relatively remote Arizona line. A few years ago it would have taken only a couple of days entering through San Diego, which is now so heavily patrolled that many travelers avoid it.

Gonzalez quotes a Coyote (unidentified as such):

Blas Tepec confirms that this was the most difficult year to cross. The 30-year-old Mexican national leads Gonzalez’s workers to the Yakima Valley from Guerrero, Mexico, every year — a trek he’s been taking for about a dozen years.

This year, with weeks of daily attempts, it took them a month to get past border patrols. Once the group got over the fence, it was a three-day walk across the desert into Phoenix. Previous trips — through now-impassable Escondido, Calif., took about a day.

This account, inevitably, is about a respectable, family-loving man who definitely deserves Christian sympathy. Not all migrants are like that, or can sustain that standard. Furthermore, what about the Americans who are hurt by the influx of cheap labor? Eloisa Ruano Gonzalez does not mention this.
