Hispano-Phobia? What The Heck Is That?

As many of you already know, there is a long list of people who drive me crazy:

  1. 1. People who think Klingons are real and insist on speaking the language in places like the supermarket check-out line.
  2. People who don’t understand that 1982 Chevy Pick-ups driving roughly 46 mph do not belong in the left lane.
  3. Non-Indian people who invent crazy names for themselves such as Pat “Growing Bear” Smith just so they can sit on the board of an Indian Gaming Casino

.

Well, it’s time to add another: PEOPLE WHO MAKE UP WORDS!!

In Pahrump, Nevada City Council officials recently enacted an ordinance that makes English the official language and restricts the flying of foreign flags…among other things.

Most of the 250 people in attendance were please with this decision but Vicky Parker was not one of them.

She said she was “appalled at the overt Hispano-phobia going on.”

[AP Story here.]

Hispano-phobia?

Hmm…how long will it take the MSM to grab on to that little zinger? I give them until Friday…and that’s if the new and improved Mel Martinez-led GOP doesn’t grab it first!

Diversity Is Strength! It’s Also Discrimination Against Asian Students

One clever kid has caught Princeton in what he’s calling discrimination against Asian-Americans.

Born in China but currently living in New Jersey, Jian Lin claims he was aware a study of admissions processes published by three Princeton researchers in 2004, which found that while elite universities gave African-American applicants an advantage equivalent to 230 extra SAT points and Hispanic applicants 185 points while making admissions decisions, the schools placed Asian at a disadvantage equal to a loss of 50 SAT points.

Two of the three researchers went on to publish a study on “disaffirmative action” in which they said Asians would be the most advantaged group by the disregarding race as a factor in college admissions. In such a scenario, the acceptance rate for Asian students would go up from 17.6 percent to 23.4 percent, the study found.

Li decided to test it out.

Li said he scored a perfect 2,400 on the SAT and a combined 2,390 on SAT II subject tests in calculus, chemistry and physics. While the civil rights agency is only using Li’s test scores and GPA as evidence in the case, Li said he does not believe these two pieces of information fully represent his admissions profile. In high school, Li said, he was president of the intercultural organization American Field Service, participated in American Legion Boys’ State and volunteered for a community service project in Costa Rica. Princeton faces suit from Univ. freshman, by Kimberly Chow and Judy Wang, Yale Daily News 11/15/06

And yet he Princeton didn’t want him.

Li is not interested in transferring to Princeton or accepting monetary settlement. Instead, he claims, he simply wants to bring attention to the issue.

Lily Dorman-Colby a Yale sophomore, is quoted by the Yale Daily News as saying she thinks discrimination may have occurred in Li’s case because colleges strive to create ethnic diversity in spite of the fact that Asian students perform better on standardized tests and have higher grades:

It’s getting to be a tricky situation for schools because, in order to represent the country as a whole, they are actually being discriminatory toward Asian Americans,” she said.

Toys For Tots: No Jesus For Christmas

Although we are not quite ready to start our annual VDARE.com War On Christmas competition, I already have my entry:

Every year, the Marine Corps (mostly cutie pa-tuties….but don’t tell my Navy husband I said that) collects and distributes toys to needy children throughout the country. The operation is entirely dependent on the generosity of individuals and corporations and I must say, they always do a fantastic job!

This year a company called Beverly Hills Teddy Bear Company offered to donate 4,000 talking Jesus dolls. Apparently, the doll quotes various scriptures from the bible–so Toys for Tots rejected the offer.

Yes indeed-y…according to Bill Grein, VP for Marines Toys for Tots in Quantico, Virginia, the Corps “doesn’t profess one religion over another.”

Furthermore, the toys are distributed to children based on financial need and they have no way of knowing the religious background of any recipient.

As such, “We can’t take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family” said Grein.

[Toys for Tots rejects Jesus doll, AP 11/14/2006]

Wow…what exactly is the risk? A Christian organization (the toy company), in a Christian nation (the United States…and yes, despite what anybody says we are a Judeo-Christian nation) wants to give Christian Christmas presents to poor kids.

How preposterous!

Here’s a thought: If Christian scripture (or Jesus himself) is so offensive, why are Jewish and Muslim kids celebrating his birthday?

(p.s. The idea of sending a Jesus doll that quotes scripture does have a pushy feel about it but I think calling it offensive is a bit, well…offensive.)

Student required to violate Christian beliefs WINS settlement from university!

Missouri State University has just settled out of court a lawsuit recently filed by Emily Brooker, undergraduate student of social work, who claimed that she was punished in class for her beliefs against homosexual adoption.

Brooker… had been assigned by a professor, Frank Kauffman [mail him] to write a letter to the Missouri Legislature expressing support for homosexual adoption. She refused to do so because of her religious objections and was charged with a “Level 3 Grievance,” the most serious charge possible, and faced the possibility of having her degree withheld.

In addition, Brooker faced a 2 1/2 hour interrogation from an “ethics” committee, which asked her personally invasive questions such as “Do you think gays and lesbians are sinners?” and “Do you think I am a sinner?”

In response to the lawsuit, the school has purged the grievance from her academic record and has forced Kauffman to resign from his administrative duties. He was also put on non-teaching leave for the rest of the semester. [Missouri State U. quickly settles lawsuit with student punished for opposing homosexual adoption , Alliance Defence Fund, 11/13/06]

Brooker will recieve $9,000 from the university, as well as about $12,000 in fees for a master’s degree in social work. It will also pay for living expenses for two years of graduate school.

N.b. Pretty smart to wait until she graduated before filing!

Congratulate the President of MSU with an email, here.

The Martinez RNC: Will it play in Nebraska?

On Tuesday a penetrating Washington Times story confirmed what I suggested earlier - that the imposition of professional Hispanic Senator Mel Martinez (R-Cuba) as Chairman of the RNC was the work of the Karl Rove inside clique, specifically to renew the charge on immigration.

Florida’s Martinez tapped for RNC chief By Ralph Z. Hallow November 14, 2006 - Access requires free registration

Florida Sen. Mel Martinez, co-author of a bill to grant amnesty to illegal aliens, has been picked by White House strategist Karl Rove to be general chairman of the Republican National Committee, RNC officials confirmed yesterday…Some RNC members, expressed anger at the way Mr. Rove leaked his choice of Mr. Martinez immediately after a conference call in which the Florida senator’s name was floated for the first time…” we never voted or even gave our opinion,” (an RNC) member said.
The move was seen as a signal that the White House intends to push through Congress the “comprehensive” immigration bill — which Mr. Martinez …backed in the Senate — that was blocked by conservative Republicans in the House.
“Clearly, Martinez is going to lead the fight for amnesty that Bush couldn’t win when Republicans controlled the Congress,” the RNC member said.

You have to wonder what makes Karl Rove hate the land of his birth so much.

Meantime from Nebraska comes evidence of why this pandering will shatter the Republican base:

Rural poll reflects immigration concerns By Nate Jenkins The Asssociated Press November 15 2006

A majority of rural Nebraskans don’t believe the influx of Latin immigrants has been good for the state, according to poll results released Monday. They also think undocumented immigrants should be deported, and that communities should not relay important information in Spanish…”I was a little surprised,” by the extent of the anti-immigration sentiment expressed by rural Nebraskans, said Rebecca Vogt, project manager for the Nebraska Rural Poll.

Just 14 percent of respondents said Latin American immigration had been good for rural Nebraska, while 56 percent disagreed.

Other findings of the poll:

— 69 percent of respondents disagreed that important information should be relayed in both English and Spanish…

— 87 percent of respondents want the government to tighten borders to prevent illegal immigration…

— 72 percent of respondents opposed granting in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants under the age of 21 who have lived in the U.S. for at least five years…

The Nebraska poll separately canvassed Nebraskan Hispanics. They thought they were wonderful for the state, demanded bilingualism, and access to in state tuition. These are the Mel Martinez Republicans.

Recruit them on these terms and the rest of Nebraskans will vote elsewhere.
