Catch An Illegal Immigrant: College Republicans Vs. RNC

Hmm…I don’t know what remains in the “guts” department when the Republican National Committee (RNC) takes issue with the College Republicans.

Let me explain: The leadership of any national political committee needs organizations such as those organized by college students and/or young people e.g. College Republicans and Young Republicans. Why? Because they are the very best source of grass roots work–people on the ground willing to walk door-to-door day after day handing out flyers, reminding people to vote and basically volunteering for all of the grunt jobs nobody else is willing to do.

Did I mention they are (for the most part) volunteers. As in, candidates don’t have to pay them.

Smart candidates (as well as the national parties) take very good care of these people.

Some time ago, several College Republican groups started an annual event called “Catch An Illegal Immigrant Day” at various campuses throughout the nation. Not surprisingly, the response has been hyper critical and of course accusations of racism are abundant.

The idea is this: A handful of people volunteer to be INS agents and their objective is to track down another volunteer wearing a badge that says “Illegal Immigrant”. The first volunteer INS agent to find the target wins $50.

Catch An Illegal Immigrant is obviously designed to raise awareness about the illegal immigration problem in America and to get young people talking…about solutions.

This year, NYU participated in the festivities.

Many NYU Students Not Having ‘Immigrant’ Game, College Republicans End Up Rubbing Many The Wrong Way by Tanya Rivero WCBS

Here are some of the responses from the crybaby students:

“It makes me very upset because they are making a game out of such a serious issue,” NYU junior Xinia Bermudez said. “They don’t know the hardships that my mom endured.”

“It’s giving people a bounty to go find the immigrants,” senior Francisco Guzman said. “Really, it’s promoting persecution.”

“There are much better ways of promoting discussion and dialogue,” junior Natalia Ospina said. “It’s hurtful to me, and I’m definitely not an undocumented immigrant. My family is all documented as well, but I think it is very hurtful, very hurtful.”

Even worse, according to the article, “Republican student groups on other campuses have played “Catch The Illegal Immigrant.” In some cases the game sparked just as much controversy, prompting the Republican National Committee to denounce it.”

Persecution? They don’t know the hardships his mother endured?

Oh please!! We have to put up with the immigrant lobby flying foreign flags all over kingdom come, translating the national anthem into Spanish and cramming a seemingly endless list of costly entitlements down our throats every single day.

Well I would call it hurtful. More to the point, I could say they don’t know what my family endured…and by that I mean what they endured (and continue to endure) to keep America free enough for them to fly their foreign flags.

But guess what? Nobody cares…Americans defending their heritage is racism–immigrants defending theirs is a God-given right.

But back to my original point: It does not surprise me that the illegal immigration lobby is having kittens over this game but it angers me to no end that the RNC would feel the need to denounce the efforts of the College Republicans.

Cowards!

Good luck in 2008 without the College Republicans, RNC. You won’t get far…

Sarukhan Assumes Mexican Ambassador Post, Prepares to Lobby

Arturo Sarukhan is the new Mexican ambassador to the U.S.
Unsurprisingly, Ambassador Sarukhan plans to influence U.S. immigration policy by aggressively lobbying for a migration accord. “There are few matters so important to this country (Mexico)” said Sarukhan in reference to emigration to the United States. [Ambassador: Mexico to lobby hard for immigration reform, AP, February 20, 2006]
Sarukhan plans to utilize the Mexican consular network in the U.S.A. (the biggest such consular network in the world) to lobby American legislators (state and federal level) Chambers of Commerce (I think he’s already got them in his pocket), other groups and in fact “all actors of U.S. society” to convince them that mass immigration is good for both countries. “We are going to put into place the same kind of diplomatic and lobbying effort that we did in the early 1990s when NAFTA was being decided,” says Sarukhan. Specifically, what does Sarukhan want? Amnesty of course, and a guest worker program.

“Migrants are not criminals nor a threat to the security of the U.S.,” affirmed Sarukhan . “The thinking that walls must be built to detain the flow of migrants because that flow threatens security is wrong.”

The new ambassador also said that protecting the rightsof Mexicans north of the border “forms the backbone of our diplomacy in the U.S.”

Historic Southwest Drought Shows the Limits to Growth

It’s tragic that the core message of environmentalism — that we should live within our means regarding natural resources — has been forgotten by corrupt “green” leaders who are little more than socialists in hiking boots. The hopeless Sierra Club would never admit the underlying meaning of the new report, which shows that the natural resources of the Southwest simply cannot provide sufficient water for Washington’s program of forced population growth via immigration.

The Colorado River Basin is more prone to drought than had been thought, a panel of experts reported yesterday, and as the climate warms and the population in the region grows, pressure on water supplies will become greater.

The severe droughts the region suffered in the 1990s and early 2000s would not stand out in the record of the last few centuries, the panel said, and the future presents “a sobering prospect for elected officials and water managers.” The panel said residents of the region should prepare for more frequent and more severe dry spells, and “costly, controversial and unavoidable trade-offs” in water use.
That ‘Drought’ in Southwest May Be Normal, Report Says, New York Times 2/22/07]

Perhaps the report’s authors thought the phrase “water rationing” would be too intense for the growth community, which depends on the fantasy of unlimited resources. (More info on the study at the National Academies.)

UPDATE:Robert A. Taft Club to Host Vlaams Belang

UPDATE: See Paul Belien’s The Vlaams Belang Goes to Washington about the meeting tomorrow night, and and about why the Vlaams Belang is so successful.

VDARE.COM readers living in the Washington D.C. area may be interested in an upcoming event hosted by the Robert A. Taft Club, featuring Frank Vanhecke and Filip Dewinter, leaders of Europe’s most successful right wing party: the Vlaams Belang.
These men will give a lecture on the subject “Immigration, Multiculturalism, and the End of Free Speech in Europe,” explaining how radical Islam, mass immigration, and suicidal liberalism have proved to be a disastrous combination for Europe, especially for traditional Western values like free speech.

Like American conservatives, the leaders of the Vlaams Belang believe in the free market and traditional morality, but their main issues are stopping immigration and creating an independent homeland for the Flemish people.

Despite the fact that the party is the largest in all of Belgium (winning 25% of the vote in recent elections) no other party will form a coalition with them, effectively locking them out of power. In 2004, the Belgian courts changed the constitution, to ban the Vlaams Belang’s earlier incarnation, the Vlaams Blok, on the grounds they incited racial hatred. Their offense? Printing a pamphlet by a member of Turkish descent criticizing female genital mutilation in Muslim countries.

Yet the Vlaams Belang continues to press on and torment the establishment. Americans concerned about the fate of Europe may want to attend. The event will take place at the Crystal City Marriott on Friday, February 23. 7:00-10:00 PM.

Immigration Restriction Increases Farm Worker Wages!

Faye Bowers writes in the Christian Science Monitor:

Empty stations on the harvest lines are more common this year throughout this swath of Arizona farm country, says Rademacher, who serves as president of the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association. The reasons are many: a 40,000-person limit on the number of foreign guest workers allowed into the US, tighter borders that are discouraging illegal crossings, and rising demand for day laborers in other industries, such as higher-paying construction work.

The shortage of farm workers has been driving wages higher. Last season, base pay for day laborers working in this area was $6.50 an hour. Now it’s $8.50. Rademacher says it may go higher because farmers here can’t attract enough employees.

Somehow, I expect over a 30% increase in pay is the sort of thing these folks would notice –and miss if a guest worker program eliminated these jobs “Americans don’t want”. I’ll bet a serious border crackdown would do even more.

“Agriculture has … made its case for sensible immigration reform which would result in a legal, stable workforce for the industry,” said Tom Nassif, president and CEO of the Western Growers Association in a Jan. 10 statement. “We now have an opportunity to proceed with reform which will be beneficial for farmers, workers, enforcement officials, and the entire nation,” he said of the AgJOBS legislation.

Translation:The members of the Western Growers Association will pass costs amounting to $100,000 per immigrant onto the American taxpayer to save $2.00/hour in labor costs–and will buy politicians to accomplish that end.
