Censored In New Jersey, Just Like In The Emirates

More on the the lameness of web censorship–Jeff Jarvis is on jury duty in New Jersey:

The good news: They had wi-fi in the New Jersey jury room where I was serving (read: waiting). The bad news: It’s censored by our own government. I can’t get to my blog, Prezvid. And get this: When I click on the link to learn more about the censorship policy, they block me from seeing that page. And I just took an oath to uphold the Constitution. What about them?BuzzMachine » Blog Archive » County censors

We’ve had a number of problems with this, and I’d like to remind readers that if you see an example of VDARE.com being blocked, please tell us.

Film Director and Son Killed by Drunk Illegal Alien

Today’s tragic reminder that illegal immigration is not a victimless crime is the deadly crash that took the lives of Hollywood film director Bob Clark and his son Ariel, 22, early Wednesday. They died in a high-speed collision when struck head-on by an SUV driven by a very drunk Mexican.

Clark is best known for the popular holiday film “A Christmas Story.” His most recent film was “SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2″ in 2004.

The 24-year-old man suspected of causing the accident that killed film director Bob Clark and his son had a bloodalcohol level three times the legal limit, authorities said Thursday.

Hector Manuel Velazquez-Nava, a native of Mexico who federal authorities said was in the U.S. illegally, faces possible charges of vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol. He suffered minor injuries in the early Wednesday accident on Pacific Coast Highway and is being held at the Van Nuys Jail. Although bail has been set at $100,000, his undocumented status makes him ineligible for release on bond, police said.

La Times further reports that Velazquez-Nava had been convicted in 2005 of a “prostitution-related charge” and was sentenced to probation, with no deportation.

Paleo Libertarian On Open Borders

The Paleo blog has a lengthy post on immigration and statism–the post is almost 4000 words, and quotes Hans-Herman Hoppe among others, but the shorter version is that mass immigration is “Just another government program.”

Private individuals, unlike the government, have the smarts to have a lock on their home door. Individuals don’t have “open borders.” We have the authority to choose—to “regulate”—who enters and who does not. Only the government has the perverse foresight to be foolish enough to have the door open to “its” geographically controlled territory. But it is much worse then that: The door is not only unlocked and wide open but inside the house there are many free gifts (welfare) waiting for those who enter! This is certainly a recipe for disaster. Government subsidizes immigration. In addition, due to the fact that “our” government is democratic, and its very nature is “open” compared to a monarchy’s “closed” nature, this tendency is further promoted. The Problems of Pro-Trespassing Libertarians - The Paleo Blog

“It Could Be Possibly A Violation Of Their Civil Rights To Ask If They Are An Illegal Alien Or Not”

Follow-up on Brenda Walker’s blog Virginia Beach Teens Killed at Intersection about two teenage girls who were killed by drunk-driving illegal alien Alfred Ramos, who had previous convictions. People are asking their local police departments why, if he was an illegal alien who had been caught before, he wasn’t deported. Virginia Beach “police spokesman” Jimmy Barnes provides part of the answer.

Their spokesperson, Christy Golden, says part of the problem is getting ICE agents to respond and react when police do call. She says the Chesapeake Police Department is now looking into creating a new policy regarding illegal immigrants. And she said quote “we all need to step up to the plate.”

Beach Police say even though Ramos was also previously charged with an alcohol related misdemeanor in their city, State law tells local police they can only contact ICE if they are arresting a suspected illegal immigrant on a felony, like rape or murder, or if they’re involved in gang activity, or have been deported before.

In fact, Virginia Beach Police say they will not even ask a suspected illegal immigrant about their status.
