Contra Chris Christie: Mulshine Blog Added to VDARE.COM Blogroll

Tonight, whenever James Fulford gets around to it, we’re going to add the Newark Star-Ledger’s Paul Mulshine’s blog to the VDARE.COM blogroll, and his nationally-syndicated columns (often on New Jersey subjects - all politics is local!) to the VDARE.COM links page.

Should have done this a long time ago. Paul is one of the few MSM voices critical of immigration policy. (Hope this doesn’t get him into trouble).

Here’s his evisceration of RINO U.S. Attorney Chris Christie’s attack on Morristown Mayor Don Cresitello, a Democrat, for daring to criticize opponents of his plan to claim local law enforcement powers against illegal aliens.

Chrisitello is running in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, which will hearten the long-suffering VDARE.COM Democratic caucus.

Many thanks to the readers who have been sending me Mulshine’s work. And to all VDARE.COM readers: please let us know whenever you see any signs of intelligent life in the MSM, national or local. We aim to make VDARE.COM a clearing house for all immigration patriots, regardless of race, creed, or politics.

Solidarity forever!

Jeremiah Wright And James Cone

James Cone is a Black Liberation theologian, if theologian is really the word here. He’s one of Jeremiah Wright’s inspirations, and most people don’t know what he’s about, so you should check out this article by Kathy Shaidle:

The leading theorist of Black Liberation Theology is James Cone. Overtly racist, Cone’s writings posit a black Jesus who leads African-Americans as the “chosen people.” In Cone’s cosmology, whites are “the devil,” and “all white men are responsible for white oppression.” Cone makes this point without ambiguity: “This country was founded for whites and everything that has happened in it has emerged from the white perspective,” Cone has written. “What we need is the destruction of whiteness, which is the source of human misery in the world.”

If whiteness stands for all that is evil, blackness symbolizes all that is good. “Black theology,” says Cone, “refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community … Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.” Small wonder that some critics have condemned black liberation theology as “racist idolatry” and “Afro-Nazism.”[Obama's Church: Gospel of Hate By Kathy Shaidle FrontPageMagazine.com | Monday, April 07, 2008]

Deconstructing Islamophobia–Who Is That Masked Woman?

This is the poster for the conference Brenda was talking about in her column today. (Click it for the full sized version,–it has all the names of the people who think that we shouldn’t be Islamophobic.)

But what it represents is a woman in a mask, like a ninja mask (you can achieve the same effect with a black t-shirt over your head–click here for details) or a Ku Klux Klan hood, or the ski-masks worn by serial killers and the IRA.

Why shouldn’t we be frightened by someone dressed like that? Here’s an example of the fear of fear, by PC enforcer Eric Muller:

Islamophobia Goes To The Movies

T

his is how fear works: a Raleigh, NC, woman in a burqa goes to the movies, and soon there are rumors of a terrorist attack.

Posted by Eric at February 7, 2008 8:19 AM.

While this turned out to be false alarm, it’s a reasonable suspicion–and if you don’t want to be suspected, you probably shouldn’t be appearing in public in a ninja mask, as worn by a Talliban commander disguising himself as a woman, and by at least one bank robber in Philadelphia.

I said recently that

Apparently the anti-Klan laws intended, not unreasonably, to prevent people from appearing in public in masks, do not apply to Muslim ladies.

Apparently the panic that people are allowed to feel at the least sign of “white racism” doesn’t apply either.

Why The DC Elite Thinks Immigration Is Swell

The Washington Post reports today that from 2000 to 2007, the percentage of children under 5 who are Hispanic swelled from 19 percent to 24 percent in this country.

On the other hand, in Washington D.C., it’s raining whites:

The District, which the census treats as a state, stands in marked exception to that trend. As once-affordable neighborhoods have gentrified over the past decade, the city has been losing black residents while gaining white newcomers, steadily diminishing its longtime status as a majority-black metropolis.

The latest census figures confirm that pattern, with non-Hispanic blacks accounting for 54 percent of the District’s population in 2007, compared with 60 percent in 2000. Meanwhile, the number of non-Hispanic whites increased from 28 to 33 percent in that period, while the Hispanic and non-Hispanic Asian population remained at 8 and 3 percent, respectively.

Every time I visit Washington D.C., it’s whiter and wealthier.

(Don’t forget, the ethnic clearing of African-Americans from D.C. is actually happening faster than these numbers for “non-Hispanic blacks” indicate–the African-Americans are being replaced by black immigrants, who tend to be more obsequious and thus make better servants for white Washingtonians.)

No wonder the politicians and pundits are baffled by all those “angry” voters out there concerned about demographic trends. In D.C., everything is good.

That helps explain the lameness of the Washington Post’s article:

“Hispanics have both a larger proportion of people in their child-bearing years and tend to have slightly more children,” said Jeffrey S. Passel, senior demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center and co-author of a recent study predicting that the Latino population will double from 15 percent today to 30 percent by 2050.

Huh? The Hispanic total fertility rate was 2.96 babies per woman per lifetime in 2006 — that’s 59 percent more than the rate for white women. That’s not “slightly.” And it’s also a lot higher than the rate for blacks, Asians, and American Indians.

“So this means that in five years, a quarter of the 5- to 9-year-olds will be Hispanic, and in 10 years a quarter of the 10- to 14-year-olds will be Hispanic. It’s just going to move up through the age distribution with each successive cohort being slightly more Hispanic,” Passel said.

At first, this seems too obvious bother putting this paragraph in the article. Yet, when you think about it, what Passel is saying turns out to be a lie — there is this thing called “immigration” that will keep increasing the Hispanic percentage for each age cohort as time goes by. So, ten years from now, more than 24 of the 10-14 year olds will be Latino.

Moreover, the key but ignored point is that in five years, the 0-5 year old cohort will be somewhere around 4 percentage points higher than in 2007 — around 28 percent.

And, from there, it just keeps going up.

I realize that it’s terribly disreputable to think about the future, but where is this going to end?

Fortunately, according to the Washington Post, there is good news hidden in the numbers. You guessed it: cultural vibrancy!

“Yet the increasing number of Latino youths might enrich mainstream U.S. culture in unexpected ways, Singer said. “A lot of popular culture comes from youth culture, and we already see the effect of the newest demographic waves in current music and new media,” she said.”

No, on the whole, we don’t. This is one of those dog-that-didn’t-bark facts that nobody notices, especially if they lunch in Georgetown.

The abstract logic is too seductive — Young people are creative; lots of young people are Hispanic. Ergo; lots of creative people in the U.S. must be Hispanic!

Except, they’re not. In Miami, sure, but definitely not in Hollywood, which happens to be at the center of the largest concentration of Hispanics in America. Mexican Americans must make up, what, 15 percent of everybody resident in the U.S. in their 20s, but they probably don’t make up even 1.5 percent of the English language celebrities in America. (Sure, there is a whole parallel universe of Univision stars, but nobody in Georgetown pays them the slightest attention.)

Nobody ever stops and counts. Counting is racist.

“Working Off Their Student Visas”

The following two stories are blatant propaganda pieces, but there is one tidbit of information in each that’s worth noting: notice the way they recognize that Optional Practical Training is a de facto H-1B visa. These two quotes tell it all:

‘When we go to hire someone, they are typically working off of their student visas,’ Scott said. ‘[Because of the H-1B scarcity], you don’t know if these individuals that you’ve hired are going to get a [visa] and if you’re going to be able to continue to employ them past a particular date in that year.’[Visa shortage hurting Georgia businesses By Urvaksh Karkaria The Atlanta Business Chronicle, April 28, 2008 ]

Other applicants are still worrying, though. Henry Suelau, a lawyer with Miles & Stockbridge PC in Baltimore, said his firm submitted about two dozen applications for clients. Many applicants, such as Baltimore Aircoil’s, work on extended student visas that expire a year after their college graduation. But the visas they applied for this month don’t become effective until Oct. 1. Workers whose student visas expire next month may be forced to leave the country before they learn the status of their application.[Lottery keeps visa applicants in dark By Scott Dance The Baltimore Business Journal (MD), April 28, 2008 ]

I find it more than interesting that these two articles, by two different authors, writing for two different magazines, had such similar things to write. Oh well, it’s probably just one of those weird coincidences!

What makes Optional Practical training so pernicious is that Americans are excluded from the entire hiring process. Here’s how the process works to leave Americans out of the hiring game:

  • * A foreign student at one of our universities is hired by a company. The student is given authorization to work as an intern either before or right after graduation by using Optional Practical Training (OPT) program.
  • * That student can work up to 29 months, in which time his employer can file for an H-1B visa or a green card. The time limit used to be 12 months until the DHS recently extended the window to 27 months (see recent newsletters about OPT). In effect, when the DHS increased the time window, they allowed far more aliens to work here without having to obtain H-1B visas. It’s a convenient way to get around the H-1B cap, and that’s why the OPT extension acts as a “de facto” H-1B increase. By extending the window the DHS will create a huge new pool of educated foreign workers waiting for H-1B visas who will be like airplanes in a holding pattern, at an airport, waiting to land.
  • * During the time the student is working as an intern with OPT, the employer never has to look for another worker. American students, and those who recently graduated that may have several years work experience, are never even considered because the job position is already filled.
  • * When the H-1B visa is granted the foreign student on OPT, for all practical purposes, becomes a permanent employee. The employer never even has to interview for a new hire. No interviews mean that Americans looking for work never knew there was a job opening. The OPT gives employers plausible deniability if they are ever asked if they looked for American workers because they never actually had an open job position — they had an INTERNSHIP instead. Of course employers aren’t required to consider Americans for OPT or H-1B, but at least H-1B regulations state that they should make a “good faith” effort to look for qualified Americans.

Norm Matloff discussed OPT in a 2006 newsletter called “Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act Of 2006″.

For the last 5-10 years, it has been typical in the industry to have a policy in which it is very difficult for a new graduate to get a software development job without having had internship/co-op experience. And if you don’t get into a development position at the beginning, it is quite difficult to get one later. In other words, internship/co-op experience is crucial to being able to have a development career.

Moreover, often in internship/co-op positions a bond develops between the employer and student, making it much easier for the student to get a permanent job with the employer after graduation.

The situation Matloff and I describe is not theoretical. In the year 2000 Norm Matloff uncovered a case where this exact scenario played out at a company called womenconnect.com, who hired a student from Mexico who was attending a U.S. university. To read about it go here.

I helped Matloff to do research that nailed womenconnect. At the time both of us thought the story would be a smoking gun that would cripple the H-1B program. Unfortunately the story was ignored by the media so it turned out to be a dud instead of a smoking gun. We sure tried though!

Jeremiah Wright, Black Internationalist

Back in the winter of 2007 I used the term “black nationalist” to describe Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, but on further reflection, that can give the wrong impression of Wright’s politics. “Black nationalism” tends to imply a fairly conservative form of separatism with an important role for capitalism. Although, judging from his Porsche and the mansion he’s building in a gated community, Rev. Wright is a talented capitalist himself, but his ideology might better be described a “black internationalist.”
